Pace Calculator
Running pace per kilometre and per mile, plus speed, from distance and time.
Quick answer
- Formula: Pace = total time ÷ distance · Pace per mile = pace per km × 1.609344 · Speed = distance ÷ time
- Worked example — Pace per kilometre: 5:00 min/km (full example below).

| Pace per kilometre | 5:00 min/km |
| Pace per mile | 8:03 min/mile |
| Average speed | 12.00 km/h |
Running 10 km in 50 minutes is a pace of 5:00 per km (8:03 per mile) at an average speed of 12 km/h.
Pace is simply time divided by distance. Enter a distance in kilometres and your finishing time to get pace per kilometre and per mile (1 mile = 1.609344 km) and your average speed in km/h.
Paces are rounded to the nearest second. Even pacing is the most efficient race strategy for most runners, so use these figures to plan splits for your next run.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good 5K pace?
It varies hugely with experience: beginners often run 7:00–8:00/km, trained club runners 4:00–5:00/km, and elites under 2:50/km. Your own best benchmark is your recent race pace.
How do I convert pace to a marathon time?
Multiply your per-km pace by 42.195. At 5:30/km that is about 3 hours 52 minutes — assuming you can hold the pace, which is the hard part.
