Force Calculator
Newton's second law: F = m × a, with weight on Earth as a bonus.
Quick answer
- Formula: F = m × a; Weight = m × g, g = 9.80665 m/s²
- Worked example — Force: 20.0000 N (full example below).
Force Calculator
| Force | 20.0000 N |
| Weight on Earth (m × g) | 98.0665 N |
Accelerating 10 kg at 2 m/s² requires a net force of 20 N. The same mass weighs 98.07 N on Earth.
Newton's second law states that the net force on an object equals its mass times its acceleration. It is the foundation of classical mechanics and the definition of the newton.
Enter mass and acceleration to get force in newtons. The calculator also shows the object's weight on Earth — the force when the acceleration is gravity, g = 9.80665 m/s².

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between mass and weight?
Mass (kg) is the amount of matter and is the same everywhere. Weight (N) is the gravitational force on that mass — about 9.81 N per kilogram on Earth, but only about 1.62 N per kilogram on the Moon.
What is one newton?
The force needed to accelerate 1 kg by 1 m/s². Roughly, it is the weight of a small apple (about 102 g) on Earth.
